As I was preparing to shoot a Savor The Success live event, Savor’s Founder and CEO Angela Jia Kim and one of the Savor Sisters Christine Fitzerald-Demaras of Body Force Brands were having a quick one-on-one in the lobby before it got crowded with happy Savories. Angela was helping Christine to brainstorm how she could take Body Force Brands to the next level. Suddenly Angela pointed at me, as I was standing there with my camera, “You need to have lifestyle photography for your re-brand! Here’s a photographer who can help!"
A few days later, Christine and I had our first Skype chat. It was a very good discussion and I learned what Christine was looking for in terms of her new target market. After the call I emailed her with a few ideas I’d brainstormed and suggested we shoot this at the community lounge in my building overlooking Manhattan. Christine loved the idea of the NYC urban feel that this would add to the images. I sent her a list of a few scenarios we could have a model play out for us. Christine loved it and wrote back with a few additional suggestions. We were all set.
Christine then found a wonderful model among her friends (it was a truly rare find: our model Darlene brought so much energy and personality to the shoot, it was a joy to photograph her!)
Since Christine had to be away to take care of her sister at the time of the shoot, I planned the rest of the shoot mostly by myself. Christine sent me the items for the model to wear and I acquired a few additional props—fruit, flowers, candles, magazines, newspapers, etc.—to make our normally empty community lounge look as if our model actually lived there.
What’s important to note also is that I work with the most loving and experienced makeup artists who not only help me with makeup and hair and take an amazingly good care of my clients (I wouldn’t have it any other way!), but they also help me with other things on the set. That day, my MUA Caroline helped me to arrange the props within the space to make sure it all looks truly gorgeous. In addition to lifestyle shots, we also did a few pure white backdrop shots for Christine’s online catalog.
